My latest amigurumi found a home even before I completed him! He found a great home where cat-lovers live. :)
He is made of cotton yarn, so he is actually very smooth when you touch him. It took me more than 5 attempts before I was finally satisfied with his face. What a relief! I thought I was never going to be able to give him a face he deserved.

最新作のネコですが、完成前からネコ好きのお二人のお家にもらわれていくことになっておりました。先日、無事にお二人のお家に旅立っていきました。ありがとうございました！
今回は普通の毛糸ではなくてコットンの糸を使用して編んでみました。コットン糸独特のつるつるした手触りで他の編みぐるみとはちょっと違った仕上がりになりました。顔の刺繍がなかなかうまくいかなくて５回目くらいにやっと納得のいく顔ができました。このままのっぺらぼうになってしまうのではないかと心配していたので、かわいい顔ができた時には、ほっとしました。

We have been informed that Save the Children: Japan Earthquake Tsunami Relief has now been finished.

Corn

A scent of corn with husk reminds me of my childhood.

My uncle used to produce corns in his farm and I helped my mother to sell them to neighbors during summer holiday.

I am glad to hear that my two nieces in Fukushima stayed with my parents in Sendai for a week during their summer holiday. They enjoyed playing around without any worry about radiation from Fukushima power plant.

There has been still thousands of earthquake from small ones to big ones since 11th of March, 2011.　When the M4 earthquake hit Tohoku area three days ago, I emailed to my niece.　She replied quickly, saying "I am just fine! I am not scared at all. I got used to the earthquake :)! I won't be scared even if the bigger one hit again! ...But... I am terrified with radiation."

皮付きとうもろこしの香りは子供の頃を思い出す香り。

叔父が作ったとうもろこしを、夏休みに近所へ販売するお手伝いをした。

福島に住む姪達が、仙台の祖父母宅へ滞在し、

放射能から解放された夏休みを楽しんだようだ。

余震はまだまだ続いている。

３日前に震度５弱の地震があった時

姪にメールをしたら、すぐ返事が着た。

「大丈夫だよ！

全然怖くないし、地震に慣れちゃったよ。

また震度６とかきても大丈夫！

原発は怖いけどね…」

Regular Meeting in the sunshine

Amigurumi team had regular meeting at Medow's on 3rd of July, as it was such a lovely weather last weekend in Edinburgh! We had actually planed to meet up at cafe, but why not outside as the weather was so nice???

Hope for Kuwagasaki

Eleven of us got together at Chinese Restaurant in Edinburgh last night to make up a message flag for Kuwagasaki, Miyako-city, Iwate-ken.

Kuwagasaki is a fishing port, which severely affected by tsunami. Yoko and Takako, who organized the event, got to know a fisher man through his blog, keeping his diary and thoughts after the quake. She felt strong sympathy and decided to send a message flag so he could hoist the flag on his fishing boat.

Yes, it's been days since I have updated the blog.
Time goes by so quickly that I can't believe.

I am sorry I haven't been around but my time is currently taking up by the other project (study that is) which I have the deadline to meet next Monday.
I am also working on the clone amigurumi requested by some of you as well.

I just wanted to drop a line to say.
I will be back!

I came home from work and found this cute package from my creative friend Chiara.

It's so perfect for my tiny treasures which I tend to accumulate!

She has also donated to our amigurumi project;
and I will be crocheting some creatures out of yarn she has sent.

We succeeded in cloning our own Dolly (sheep)!

Dolly, the clone sheep, was born thanks to a request from our supporter to adopt a sheep after seeing the photo of our #27! Because our amigurumi animals are crocheted using whichever yarn available without particular patterns, we may not clone our animals exactly the same look. But we are happy to give it a go, so feel free to contact us if you have any special requests to us!

Helping schools in Tohoku - Kokkyo naki Kodomotachi

I’ve met a really interesting person at my friend’s wedding last Saturday. She had come from Japan with her husband to attend the wedding and is Secretary General of a NPO called KnK - Kokkyo naki Kodomotachi (Children without Boarders 国境なき子供たち).

This NPO supports disadvantaged children in developing countries mainly in Asia; however after the devastating earthquake and tsunami on 11 March in Tohoku Japan, they have been working to help the children in affected areas in Tohoku. Their main focus has always been the education and welfare of children, so now in Tohoku where the schools have only just reopened KnK has been helping by donating replacement buses and new school uniforms.

It was humbling to be reminded just how much work is still to be done to repair the earthquake area – and to be reminded that, while the media cameras will always move on to the next story, if we really want to make a difference it’s going to be a long haul.

Piles of boxes sent for high-school sailers in Miyagi. Sailers in Kanto area donated their jackets, wears, shoes, and other accessaries, so students could resume sailing. Students are not afraid of sea! They just love sailing and the sea.
